Sugarhouse was a central block in downtown Salt Lake City that once had many locally owned shops. Unfortunately, in 2008, a block of stores was sold and torn down, leaving an empty lot. Today, the area is largely occupied by big box stores, but you can find some local gems like Fishers Cyclery and Ten Thousand Villages in the Sugarhouse. Sugarhouse Park is a 110-acre urban park in Salt Lake City. It was once home to Utah’s first state prison, and it still has a unique history. The park is a popular spot for sledding in the winter.
