During the fall, the wetland becomes a staging area for migrating birds. Starting in September, the northern migrants pause here for feeding before taking flight. By October, the marshes freeze over. But the best time to visit is from November to March. The eagles can be seen roosting in the trees throughout the fall and winter seasons. The Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area is an 18,000-acre refuge for migratory birds. This area began life as Farmington Bay State Park in the 1930s. The Utah State Department of Fish and Game and the National Park Service teamed up to transform the delta into a wildlife sanctuary. The National Park Service enlisted the help of the Civilian Conservation Corps to perform labor-intensive work. In 1935, the CCC set up Camp SP-2 at Farmington Bay. From Fort Collins, Colorado, the Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area is approximately 7 hours away. Take Interstate 25 north to Interstate 80 and travel west for approximately 380 miles. From the east, take Interstate 15 south and continue to exit at the Lagoon/Park Lane exit. Park Lane bears southwards to Clark Lane, which turns into 1525 W. The next road is Glovers Lane, which then leads to the Farmington Bay WMA.
